Proposal Reflection
The Journey
At the start of my proposal, the biggest challenge I faced was I wasn't sure where to begin. Part of it was that all I could think of was the effects of Covid last year and the overwhelming influx of technology thrown at teachers. I began to think about the start of this year specifically. What was a significant problem being back in-person for the first time in over a year and a half? I then realized that this year there is a lack of motivation and enthusiasm from my students. There is no joy, passion, or excitement in their learning.
Once I was able to identify what I felt was a significant issue with my 8th-grade students, I felt a sense of ease.
Outcomes
I am still excited about my proposal because I do believe in its potential. I think incorporating effective, meaningful, and engaging technology could help solve the problem. Students can use technology tools to help them create, construct, and generate their information digitally.
After speaking with my Team and having them fill out my survey about my proposal, I realized I wasn't the only one who felt this way, which was also reassuring. Researching and coming across tech tools that others have found successful has been inspiring. One website I came across Favorite Tech Tools for Social Studies, has been beneficial in my journey. The tools suggested are not just for Social Studies and can be used in any subject. I selected a few of the tools for my survey to see if my colleagues have ever heard of them and would be interested in learning more about them. I am excited to share my insight and work with my teammates to increase engagement in our classrooms. According to the edutopia article, What is Successful Technology Integration, "Willingness to embrace change is also a major requirement for successful technology integrations." Moving forward, I hope to get my teammates onboard with integrating some of these tools into their classrooms.
